Dry Shampoo Alternative for women with thinning hair

Dry Shampoo Alternative for women with thinning hair

Alternative to Dry Shampoo for Thinning Hair

Dry shampoo is not good for your hair. It can cause dry, brittle strands and among a host of other negative side effects, it can clog your pores and suffocate your follicles. If you are a women with thinning hair, then it is a very common misconception that washing your hair every day results in more hair loss. This is not true and using a dry shampoo to avoid daily hair washing is doing so much more damage than washing it more frequently could ever do.

We know dry shampoo has been a saving grace for many women for years. Women use it often daily to extend the time between washes, because they feel it provides a feeling of fresh hair without the time and energy spent washing, drying and styling.

According to Global Dry Shampoo Market Growth, Trends and Forecasts (2018-2023): Spray Form of Dry Shampoo is Likely to Witness the Fastest Growth the global dry shampoo market is expected to grow 6.25% between 2018 and 2023 - a clear indication that women have no idea how damaging this so-called wonder product can be, especially if you have other than healthy, shiny hair to start with.

Despite this being a beauty staple in many women's handbags, it seems most women have no idea how damaging dry shampoo can be on the hair and scalp – especially if a woman is suffering from thinning hair or visible hair loss.

The main ingredient in dry shampoo is Alcohol, along with Butane, Isobutane, Oryza Sativa, (Rice) Starch, Propane, Parfum (Fragrance), Coumarin, Eugenol, Limonene, Butylphenyl, Methylpropional, Linalool, Distearyldimonuim Chloride.

Industry experts all seem to agree that using dry shampoo can lead to a host of hair and scalp problems. Regular exposure can cause extreme drying and the absorption of natural oils, which a healthy scalp needs to function. A common condition caused by excessive use of dry shampoo is folliculitis which is a common inflammatory skin condition that affects the hair follicle and, if not treated, can cause scarring and permanent hair loss.

In addition, dry shampoo sits on the scalp, and if used instead of washing hair, the particles of dry shampoo build up and clog the pores. This results in suffocated, itchy, irritated follicles.

Natural alternatives to dry shampoo

  • Arrowroot - Arrowroot absorbs very, very well and can help to remove excessive oil build up and impurities from the hair.
  • Baking Soda is another common dry shampoo alternative.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – This is a healthy hair treatment which has cleansing hair properties. To refresh oily hair, try adding 5 drops to 150ml of water into a bottle and spray onto the roots.

We have also found these beauty products are great for helping to reduce oily hair and are gentle on thinning hair.

  • Switch to a detergent free shampoo which cleans and never strips away the protective barrier. These usually remove the excess natural oil, dirt and styling products - but never the oils. We recommend the Carelli range.
  • Boost N Blend - A natural hair loss concealer made from cotton fibres gently absorb excess oil (without drying your hair out) and have a very similar effect to dry shampoo by boosting root volume and reducing oiliness. See what Boost N Blend can do for thinning hair here.
  • Charcoal Hair Drying Tissues - portable, oil-absorbing dry shampoo hair blotting tissues are infused with tapioca starch and activated black charcoal powder to absorb excess oil.

But best of all...

Wash your hair every day.

If your hair is not shedding, you may find that your regrowth is either slow or non-existent. One way to boost your hair growth is to use a high quality shampoo that does not contain any nasty detergents, like the Carelli range.

Washing your hair every day will stimulate your hair follicles and promote healthy growth. I have seen it with my own eyes. My hair growth had slowed to an almost stop. I wasn't shedding any longer, but I wasn't growing any new hair either. I started to wash my hair every day and within three months I had new hair growth all over.

But please whatever you do, if your hair is thinning, please do not use dry shampoo. You are far better off washing your hair every day and keeping it looking fresh and bouncy naturally!
